The Days of Darkness

The Days of Darkness

written by traveler

There is coming up in the future an event that has been prophicied in both the old and new Testament that is to have a great deal of significance. It is a time of darkness that will over shadow everything for an extended duration. It also appears to be tied in with what is happening in Israel which means that the time for its fulfillment could well be drawing closer. Hence the reason for taking a closer look at this subject.

What also needs to be noted is that this kind of event has happened before, its not something new, but at the same time it is not common either. The last time something like this happened was in Exodus as shown in the passage below.
Exo 10:21 And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt.

Exo 10:22 And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days:

Exo 10:23 They saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.
The passage below is the first one to hint at this future time of darkness but what I want to point out is what it is associated with, it is looking at a time of conflict, a time where God is dealing with his adversaries but in a New Testament setting. It is pointing to the time when God will be taking the rejected of this earth and placing them in positions of authority while the wicked of this earth are left with out any defence or word. It is describing the events associated with the second coming of Christ.
1Sa 2:8 He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD’S, and he hath set the world upon them.

1Sa 2:9 He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.

1Sa 2:10 The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.
Now there is an association here with an event known as the Day of the Lord, there are quite a few references to this event as well. Now verse 31 in the passage below makes reference to this time of darkness and places it as an event that is to occur before The Day of the Lord. In other words the days of Darkness act as a marker in time that the Day of the Lord is about ready to follow. This is associated with the deliverance of mount Zion and the city of Jerusalem. One look at events in the middle east and the controversy over the existence of the state of Israel and the city of Jerusalem indicates that this event is probably going to be happening sooner than later, quite possible our generation will be the ones to see it. Verse 30 could well be pointing to the start of our nuclear age. As in mushroom clouds.
Joe 2:26 And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed.

Joe 2:27 And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the LORD your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed.

Joe 2:28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

Joe 2:29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.

Joe 2:30 And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.

Joe 2:31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.

Joe 2:32 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.
Because of the association between the days of darkness and the Day of the Lord I included this following passage as well. It describes a time of conflict and war involving an army that we do not actually have on this earth at this time. It is very much an Armageddon scenario.
Joe 2:7 They shall run like mighty men; they shall climb the wall like men of war; and they shall march every one on his ways, and they shall not break their ranks:

Joe 2:8 Neither shall one thrust another; they shall walk every one in his path: and when they fall upon the sword, they shall not be wounded.

Joe 2:9 They shall run to and fro in the city; they shall run upon the wall, they shall climb up upon the houses; they shall enter in at the windows like a thief.

Joe 2:10 The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining:

Joe 2:11 And the LORD shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?

Joe 2:12 Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:

Joe 2:13 And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.

It is interesting to note that Jesus also spoke of this Time of Darkness and he places it as an event that will happen just before he returns to gather his elect in what has become known as the rapture. But he also places the event as happening just after a time of tribulations. The tribulations, Time of Darkness and the gathering of his elect are all to occur in the space of a single generation so these events are going to be following one on top of the other. For the nations to morn indicates that his return to gather the saints is not something that they wanted to see happen. From this it can be concluded that the tribulations applied mostly to the saints themselves.

Looking at how the world is moving in an organized manner to control and repress the Christian faiths it is no stretch of the imagination to consider that the times of tribulation is fast approaching.
Mat 24:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

Mat 24:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

Mat 24:31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

Mat 24:32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:

Mat 24:33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.

Mat 24:34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

Mat 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
The Apostle Mark also recounts the same warnings quoted from Jesus but it is to be noted that the Tribulations also include the appearance of many false Christs and false prophets that will add to the general confusion of the age. This we already see with a deluge of new age occultism and false Christs all over the place proclaiming their own selves.
Mar 13:21 And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not:

Mar 13:22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.

Mar 13:23 But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.

Mar 13:24 But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light,

Mar 13:25 And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.

Mar 13:26 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.

Mar 13:27 And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.

Mar 13:28 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near:

Mar 13:29 So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors.

Mar 13:30 Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.

Mar 13:31 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
Now the historian Luke covered this same subject in his research of Christianity and though he did not mention the sun being darkened he mentioned signs in the sun and moon but he also described events that literary describe our current situation regarding global warming and weather woes. But gain the chain of events is the same though he covers the history from a Jewish perspective as well.

He pointed out that Jerusalem would be trodden under the feet of the gentiles until the time of the gentiles was to draw to an end. Well the nation of Israel once again exists and there now is a lot of controversy regarding the city of Jerusalem. From the old testament the days of darkness is associated with the controversy over Jerusalem, hence the time for this event to occur seems to be very close.
Luk 21:24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

Luk 21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;

Luk 21:26 Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

Luk 21:27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

Luk 21:28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

Luk 21:29 And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees;

Luk 21:30 When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand.
Now the book of acts also gives us a reference to this event quoting from the old testament. The Apostle Paul again affirms that the days of Darkness will happen before the Lord returns to gather his elect but even though there will be tribulation for the saints the message will still be going out that there is a need for repentance and calling on the name of the Lord before the Day of the Lord happens.
Act 2:16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

Act 2:17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

Act 2:18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

Act 2:19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

Act 2:20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:

Act 2:21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Act 2:22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:
Now the book of Revelation nails down the timeline for the Event of Darkness a lot closer. It is to happen during the time period covered by the sixth seal. That means that the first 5 seals will comprise the events that Jesus referred to as the tribulations of those days. It reads like a time of cosmic upheavals and massive earthquakes that actually alter the earths geophysical form.

But what is very interesting to note is that a lot of underground bunkers are being built and stocked at this very time making the fulfilment of this prophecy regarding the great and free men of this earth ducking for cover while the poor and no account are left to perish.
Rev 6:12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;

Rev 6:13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.

Rev 6:14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.

Rev 6:15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;

Rev 6:16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:

Rev 6:17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?
The only ones that will be standing out in the open when all this happens will be those that do not fear it because they will be expecting to see the return of their Lord to gather them and take them out from this place.

Something to think about!
